“One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” – Proverbs 11:24-25
When it comes to money, we are encouraged to be free givers. Many times we hold very tightly to our money, as though it is ours. But “the Earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness” (Psalm 24). Thus we are admonished to be loose – not with our spending, but with our giving. We are not to give frivolously. But we are to hold the monies entrusted to us with a loose grip. We read above that refreshing others will bring refreshment to the giver. This is not a formula that if we give our money we will be blessed with more money than we had before. That would not be a right motive for giving. But is does suggest that blessing (that is often spiritual in nature) will be given to those who bless others. Indeed, there is no feeling more refreshing than having blessed another person by giving freely.
